No one can fix it for you.

Treasure blogNo one can fix it for you.

No one can solve your problem for you. That’s why it’s yours.

“What!?!?”, you say.

This doesn’t mean you can do it by yourself, either, because you can’t.

“What?!?”, you say again. “Does that mean I’m screwed?”

Absolutely NOT and far from it! You’re just looking in the wrong place for your answers.

There’s a Zen story that illustrates this perfectly:

A beggar had been sitting by the side of the road for thirty years. One day a stranger walked by.  “Spare some change?” mumbled the beggar. “I have nothing to give you,” said the stranger. Then he asked: “What’s that you’re sitting on?” “Nothing,” replied the beggar. “Just an old box. I’ve been sitting on it for as long as I can remember.” “Ever look inside?” asked the stranger. “No,” said the beggar. “What’s the point, there’s nothing in there.” “Have a look inside,” insisted the stranger. The beggar, reluctantly, managed to pry open the lid. With astonishment, disbelief, and elation, he saw that the box was filled with gold.

From The Power of Now: A Guide to Spiritual Enlightenment by Eckhart Tolle

Coaches, teachers, therapists, healers, experts, doctors, and gurus are only pointers, at best. A good one can point you in the direction of your answer. It’s funny because if you follow a direction on this earth to its endpoint, you will arrive at its starting point. And, that’s where the treasure is, under your own feet. Really, it’s inside you. You have everything you need within you. This is a lesson in the major spiritual traditions.

This, of course, doesn’t mean that we know everything or should know everything. All those experts can give you invaluable information and turn you on to practices, skills, and resources.

However, the info is just a series of clues that must be run through your own intuitive system and experience or it’s not yours. The power of the guidance is the connection to the part of you that knows what’s best for you and that expresses your unique voice.

No one can save you. You don’t need it. We all need guidance. We all need information and support. We all need clues to how to read our internal compass. And, we ultimately must work open the inner treasure chest to discover our own answers.

The gold is there. Dig it!
